Everything sits along one wall. It is the most compact shape and the cheapest for a given amount of storage, because there is no corner to solve and no worktop joint to make. It suits a narrow room, or a kitchen open onto a living room you would rather not partition. Its limit is the work triangle: sink, hob and fridge end up in a line, and you walk the length of the wall for every task.
